A trailer for The Social Reckoning arrived this week, and the casting choice alone is doing most of the marketing work: Jeremy Strong, last seen eating his Emmy for Succession, is playing Mark Zuckerberg — and the production is not being coy about the comparison.

The official positioning is already circulating under the tag “Zuckcession,” a portmanteau the publicity apparatus appears to have embraced rather than discouraged.

Strong's version of Zuckerberg, per the trailer, runs defiant. That's a studied distance from Jesse Eisenberg's twitchy 2010 interpretation in The Social Network — and, for that matter, from the congressional-hearing footage that became its own genre of ambient comedy.

No theatrical release date accompanied the trailer. No distributor was foregrounded in the drop.

Strong won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2021 for playing Kendall Roy, a man who also spent considerable screen time convinced he was the smartest person in any given room.
