Workers at the Kennedy Center began stripping President Trump's name from the arts institution's exterior Thursday, acting under a federal court order that gives the venue until noon Saturday to complete the removal.

A judge granted a 12-hour extension after the center indicated it could not finish the work by the original deadline, the Wail confirmed.

The Kennedy Center was renamed in honor of Trump earlier this year, a move the current administration backed. The court order to undo that renaming signals a direct legal rebuke of the effort.

The institution has not publicly detailed the cost of the removal work or who is bearing it. No administration official had responded to the order as of Thursday evening.

The facade work is expected to conclude by noon Saturday, the court-imposed deadline after the extension. Any failure to comply could expose the institution to contempt proceedings.
