Three Chilean nationals have been arrested in Argentina on suspicion of carrying out burglaries against high-profile athletes in the United States, including Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, the BBC reported Wednesday.
Argentine authorities took the suspects into custody as part of an investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions, according to the report. The burglaries are alleged to have targeted homes belonging to prominent sports figures.
The case fits a documented pattern of organised theft crews, often traced to South America, that surveil and hit properties owned by wealthy celebrities and athletes across the US.
Kelce, one of the most recognisable names in American football, has not publicly commented on the alleged targeting of his property.
It remains unclear whether the United States has sought extradition of the three suspects. Investigators have not confirmed how many properties were hit or the total value of goods alleged to have been taken.
Extradition proceedings, if initiated, are expected to be outlined by prosecutors in the coming weeks.
