President Donald Trump called on Middle East nations Sunday to formally recognise Israel by joining the Abraham Accords as part of any final settlement with Iran, framing the demand on social media as a chance to make the agreement “a far more Historic Event.”

Trump's post did not name specific countries but the ask directly implicates Saudi Arabia, which has not signed the accords, and whose normalisation with Israel remains a central US foreign-policy objective.

Iran pushed back the same day, with officials denying that any deal with Washington is imminent. Tehran did acknowledge some progress in the latest round of US-Iran negotiations, which have centred on Iran's nuclear programme and economic sanctions.

The conflicting signals come as oil markets remain jittery over potential disruption to the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of global oil supply passes. Iran has previously threatened to close the strait in the event of military action.

No date for a formal agreement has been set. The next scheduled round of talks is expected this week, according to regional diplomatic sources cited by international wire services.
