Prince Harry turned up alone at NBA Finals Game 5 in San Antonio on Saturday night — no scheduled appearance, no Meghan Markle, no advance notice — and took a courtside seat for the Knicks-Spurs matchup at the Frost Bank Center.
At some point during the game, Harry leaned over toward Spike Lee and extended his hand. Lee, 68, the director whose Knicks courtside presence is itself a decades-long institution, did not take it. The moment was caught on the arena broadcast feed and had done several laps of social media before the final buzzer.
Lee's representatives had not offered any explanation as of Saturday night. Harry's team had nothing on the record either.
The Knicks won Game 5, 114–109, taking a 3–2 series lead. The final score was, briefly, the second most-discussed detail from the evening.
Harry had flown in without a listed engagement on his public calendar — which, at this point, runs fairly short.
