Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 crossed $1 billion in global ticket sales this weekend, clearing the threshold to become the highest-grossing film of 2026, according to figures published by Variety on July 26.

Domestic receipts account for $448 million of that total. The remaining sum comes from international markets, where the franchise has maintained consistent performance across its three-decade run.

The original Toy Story opened in November 1995. The fifth installment arrives in a marketplace where the average household contains more internet-connected devices than plastic action figures, a fact the film's marketing materials did not foreground.

Pixar's last billion-dollar theatrical release before this one was Incredibles 2 in 2018, a gap that included a stretch of straight-to-streaming releases during the Disney+ buildout era.

No competing 2026 release has come within visible range of the $1 billion mark at this writing. The toys, it turns out, are still in the attic.
