The company confirmed Thursday it is expanding its international scripted slate with three new series originating from the U.K. and Ireland. Two of those projects carry attachments that will land cleanly in any trade headline: Julia Roberts is set to narrate one series, while Russell T Davies — the man who resurrected Doctor Who and delivered It’s a Sin to a generation that still hasn’t recovered — is executive producing another.
Details on the individual projects remain tight. No loglines have been released, no broadcaster partnerships announced, and no window has been set for any of the three series. What Wonder Project is selling, for now, is direction of travel: the company wants a meaningful footprint in international scripted, and it wants talent at the top of the call sheet to get it there.
The move fits a pattern that has been building quietly across the industry for the better part of two years. American production companies have been circling British and Irish creative infrastructure with increasing seriousness — drawn by the talent pipeline, the tax incentive landscape, and audiences that have demonstrated they will follow quality regardless of postcode. Davies, whose recent output has commanded both critical attention and streaming real estate, is exactly the kind of attachment that tells a room the project is serious. Roberts’s narration credit, meanwhile, brings marquee recognition to whatever the first series turns out to be.
Wonder Project has not confirmed which streamer or broadcaster will carry any of the three shows. That announcement, when it comes, will tell the fuller story.
