Brad Bird, who directed Pixar's 2007 feature Ratatouille, has declined to make a sequel despite interest from the studio, according to a report published by Variety on June 24, 2026.

Bird's position, as characterized in the piece, is four words: “we told that story.”

The original film, which follows a rat named Remy pursuing a culinary career in a Paris kitchen, earned $623 million at the worldwide box office against a reported production budget of $150 million, and took the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2008.

Pixar's appetite for sequels is well documented. The studio has returned to Toy Story three times, to Cars twice, and to Finding Nemo once. The Incredibles, also directed by Bird, received a sequel in 2018 — fourteen years after the original.

No alternate director or greenlit development has been announced for a Ratatouille follow-up. Pixar has not commented on the record.

Bird did make a sequel to his other Pixar film. The rat remains retired.
