President Trump late Saturday renewed his demand that Republican senators eliminate the filibuster, warning the party must act “before it is too late” to pass his voting bill and other stalled priorities.
Trump posted the directive on Truth Social as the Senate faces a crammed legislative calendar heading into August recess. The voting bill, which the White House has pushed as central to the second-term agenda, has stalled against the 60-vote threshold the filibuster requires.
Republicans hold 53 Senate seats. Killing the filibuster on legislation would require a simple majority, but a bloc of GOP senators has historically refused to go that far, citing the rule as a long-term check on majority power.
Trump has raised filibuster elimination before, most recently as his budget reconciliation package cleared procedural hurdles. Saturday's post sharpens the pressure with explicit urgency language, a sign the White House views the coming weeks as the last viable window before the midterm cycle tightens the political map.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not publicly committed to bringing a filibuster vote to the floor. The Senate returns from recess in September.
