Democrat Says Trump Is Hiding Iran War Death Toll From Congress

The Trump administration has refused to share Iran war casualty figures with Congress, Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said Monday, after three U.S. service members were killed over the past week.

Smith, the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, said the White House has not provided lawmakers with the numbers despite direct requests from the committee.

“Congress has a right to know how many Americans are being killed in this conflict,” Smith told reporters, according to remarks reported by The Hill.

Three service members died in the past seven days. Smith said members of the Armed Services Committee have been left without official casualty data, blocking the committee from exercising its oversight role.

The White House did not respond publicly to Smith’s statement as of Monday evening. No Republican committee members have publicly backed the call for disclosure.

Smith sits in the senior Democratic seat on the committee that holds primary jurisdiction over U.S. military operations and Pentagon spending.

The Armed Services Committee is expected to press the issue when Congress resumes full session activity this week. Whether Republican leadership schedules a formal hearing on Iran war transparency remains unclear.
