Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) condemned Democratic Socialists of America members Tuesday after video showed activists chanting “you’re next” at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries during a public event at a bar.
Warnock, speaking to reporters, called the confrontation counterproductive and said elected Democrats should not face that kind of pressure from within their own coalition, according to remarks covered by The Hill.
The incident is the latest flashpoint between the DSA’s activist wing and mainstream House Democratic leadership. Jeffries, who leads House Democrats as the party’s top minority official, has drawn sustained criticism from left-flank groups over his positioning on economic and foreign policy votes.
DSA chapters have ramped up public confrontations with Democratic officeholders in recent months, targeting members they view as insufficiently progressive heading into the 2026 midterm cycle.
Warnock himself faces a competitive Senate re-election campaign in Georgia and has sought to project a united Democratic front. His pushback on the DSA chants signals that establishment Democrats intend to draw a cleaner line against such tactics.
The Democratic caucus is expected to address internal organizing standards at upcoming leadership meetings this month.
