Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said Sunday that President Trump's Truth Social posts calling for his removal from Congress were functioning, in effect, as a donation solicitation on his behalf.
“I think that's going to help my fundraising,” Massie told reporters, responding to a round of Trump posts that named him directly and urged Kentucky Republicans to find a primary challenger.
Trump's posts on Truth Social targeted Massie by name, characterizing him as an obstacle to the Republican agenda in the House. The posts did not name a preferred replacement candidate.
Massie has accumulated a record of no-votes on Republican leadership priorities, including procedural motions and spending packages that passed with narrow margins. His 2026 primary race had drawn no announced challengers as of Sunday.
The congressman did not indicate whether his campaign had seen any measurable dollar movement in the hours following the posts. His campaign had not released a fundraising figure tied to the episode by Sunday evening.
The last time a sitting president's public call to primary a sitting congressman produced the named congressman's best fundraising quarter was not specified in any statement Massie's office released.
