Kiran Kaur has been jailed for removing the knife used to murder student Henry Nowak from the scene of his killing, a UK court confirmed Friday.

Kaur, the mother of Nowak's killer, took the weapon in what prosecutors said was a deliberate attempt to obstruct the investigation into the stabbing death.

Nowak's murder drew wide attention in the East Midlands. Police recovered the knife despite Kaur's efforts, and the concealment charge was pursued alongside the primary murder prosecution.

The court found Kaur guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice. The judge imposed a custodial sentence, the length of which the Wail is working to confirm from court records.

Henry Nowak's family attended proceedings. No statement was released through court representatives Friday.

An appeal window remains open under standard UK criminal procedure. The Wail will report any application as filings become public.
