A federal court has denied Donald Trump's latest attempt to delay payment of a $5.8 million judgment owed to E Jean Carroll, the Wail confirmed Sunday.
A jury determined in 2023 that Trump sexually abused Carroll and defamed her by denying it publicly. The civil verdict was returned in a New York federal court.
Trump has mounted repeated legal efforts to postpone the payment. The court's latest denial closes off that avenue for now, leaving the judgment immediately enforceable.
The ruling comes as Carroll's legal team has pressed for full collection of the award. Trump's attorneys did not immediately comment publicly on the decision, according to reports reviewed by the Wail.
The $5.8 million figure covers damages from the defamation finding. A separate jury in 2024 awarded Carroll an additional $83.3 million in a related case, though that judgment has faced its own appeals process.
Trump's legal team is expected to file further appellate challenges. No date for a subsequent hearing has been publicly set.
