Thames Valley Police are investigating an allegation that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor behaved inappropriately towards a woman at Royal Ascot in 2002, according to a report published by the Sunday Times on 24 May 2026.
The alleged incident took place during the Royal Ascot meeting held at Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire, in a year that also saw the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations. The Sunday Times did not identify the woman alleged to have been affected.
The investigation is, per the report, a live police matter. Thames Valley Police had not issued a public statement at time of publication. No charges have been filed.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the Duke of York, was formally stripped of his remaining honorary military titles and royal patronages in January 2022 following the settlement of a civil lawsuit brought in New York by Virginia Giuffre, which was resolved without admission of liability.
Royal Ascot 2002 ran from 18 to 21 June. The Royal Enclosure dress code that year required morning dress for men.
