The Department of Justice and seventeen state attorneys general have settled a price-fixing complaint against major American egg producers, according to a July 5, 2026 NPR report, closing a case that traced years of retail egg prices through a sustained climb that left grocery receipts looking like a different product category entirely.
The complaint alleged coordinated conduct among producers sufficient to move prices above what supply disruptions — avian flu outbreaks prominent among them — could account for on their own.
