Elon Musk said Monday that Neuralink is developing what he called “Jesus-like technologies,” a characterization he offered of the company's brain-computer interface program during an interview reported by MarketWatch.
Neuralink, which received FDA breakthrough device designation and implanted its first human patient in January 2024, is working on devices intended to restore mobility in paralyzed individuals and, in subsequent generations, to allow high-bandwidth communication between the human brain and external computers.
Musk has previously framed the company's work in civilizational terms — positioning direct neural interfaces as a counterweight to the risks posed by advanced artificial intelligence. The Jesus comparison represents an escalation in register, if not in ambition.
The billionaire controls several companies with overlapping stated missions to redefine human life, energy, transport, and the information environment. Neuralink's current approved indication is for patients with paralysis due to ALS or cervical spinal cord injury.
The interview did not include a list of specific miracles Neuralink is targeting for replication.
