Sia, the Australian-born pop singer who has spent the better part of fifteen years obscuring her face beneath an oversized blond wig and matching hair bow, was photographed without either in Los Angeles on Monday.

The look — blond fringe pulled forward, face largely or entirely covered — became a fixture at red carpets, talk show appearances, and music videos beginning around 2012. The bow, sometimes the size of a small dog, has shipped with her to every major public outing since.

On Monday it did not.

Sia was out in the city without the wig, without the bow, and apparently without an advance statement explaining the departure. Representatives had not issued a comment as of publication.

The singer has described the disguise over the years as a deliberate choice to separate her private life from her public one — a firewall she has maintained with unusual consistency for a major pop act.

The firewall, at least on Monday afternoon in Los Angeles, was down.
